As the descendant of Holocaust survivors and political refugees, Sebastian Van Coevorden always knew he needed to pursue a career fighting to provide a voice to the voiceless. Originally from Seattle, Sebastian moved to Boston to study political science at Northeastern University. As part of his college experience, Sebastian explored social justice in the legal field through six-month internships with the Bronx Defenders and the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office. In both internships, Sebastian worked to ensure that those without means had access to reputable representation.

Sebastian then became a Texan when he moved to Austin to begin his legal studies at the University of Texas School of Law. While in law school, Sebastian was an active member of the Mithoff Pro Bono Program and competed on various interscholastic moot court and mock trial teams. Specifically, Sebastian was a two-year member of UT’s interscholastic Civil Rights Mock Trial Team. He was coached by Jay Ellwanger and learned how to be a civil rights trial advocate. Sebastian applied these skills to his law school clerkships at the Texas Advocacy Project and the Texas Legal Services Center. In these roles, he worked to advance the rights of survivors of interpersonal violence and those with disabilities.

After graduating from law school, Sebastian joined Ellwanger Law to fulfill his goal of working to provide a voice to the voiceless throughout our country.
